Soon processors can be compared not only by cores and frequencies. AMD already has Ryzen samples with Xilinx block

AMD is going to introduce a specialized FPGA block in consumer processors.

Technical analyst David Schor says the former head of Xilinx and current president of AMD’s Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group revealed that Xilinx’s Ryzen consumer AI Engine processors are already in the company’s lab.

AMD itself talked a little about this at the beginning of the summer. According to the available data, we are talking about the Phoenix Point APUs, a new generation of Ryzen mobile processors, which are expected early next year. These processors are known for sure to be based on the Zen 4 and RDNA 3 architectures.

Unfortunately, there are no details about the AI Engine block yet, but we recall that the other day Intel told about the VPU block, which will appear in some Raptor Lake mobile processors, but will become fully available in Meteor Lake.
