In the last financial year 2021-22, there has been a three-fold increase in the retail sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.

This information has been received from the data collected by the Federation of Vehicle Dealers Associations (FADA).

Total retail sales of electric vehicles more than tripled to 4,29,217 units in FY 2021-22 from 1,34,821 units in the previous financial year 2020-21.
Tata has been at the forefront
According to FADA, 1,68,300 electric vehicles were sold in the country in 2019-20. In the last financial year, retail sales of electric passenger vehicles jumped three-fold to 17,802 units from 4,984 units in 2020-21. In this segment, domestic auto major Tata Motors was at the forefront with retail sales of 15,198 units. Its market share stood at 85.37 percent. The retail sales of the Mumbai-based company stood at 3,523 units in 2020-21.
MG Motor finished second
Apart from this, MG Motor India stood second with sales of 2,045 units. Its market share stood at 11.49 per cent. MG Motor sales stood at 1,115 units in 2020-21.
Mahindra finished third
Mahindra & Mahindra stood third with sales of 156 units and Hyundai Motor stood fourth with sales of 128 units. Both had a market share of less than one percent.
Two wheeler sales increased 5 times
Electric two-wheeler sales increased five-fold to 2,31,338 units in the last fiscal from 41,046 units in the previous fiscal. Hero Electric topped the two-wheeler segment with sales of 65,303 units with a market share of 28.23 per cent.

It was followed by Okinawa Autotech in second place. Its sales stood at 46,447 units. Ampere Vehicles stood third with 24,648 units sold. Hero MotoCorp-backed Ather Energy sold 19,971 electric two-wheelers in the last financial year and stood fourth.
Ola is in sixth place
Let us tell you that Bangalore-based company Ola Electric stood at sixth place with sales of 14,371 vehicles and TVS Motor Company at seventh place with sales of 9,458 vehicles.
FADA collects data from RTO
FADA has collected data from 1,397 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) out of 1,605. FADA said that sales of electric three-wheelers increased to 1,77,874 units in the last financial year as against 88,391 units in the previous financial year. Similarly, the sales of electric commercial vehicles increased from 400 units to 2,203 units.
