Chinese brands missed a historic chance to lead the Russian automotive market for the first time

During the period from June 27 to July 3, 2022, Russians bought 2,226 new cars from Chinese brands. For the first time in history, Chinese companies were as close as possible to leading the Russian market.

The fact is that during the same period, 2244 passenger cars of domestic brands were sold, that is, the “Chinese” lacked only 19 cars to get ahead of Russian manufacturers.

At the same time, according to the results of the 26th week, domestic and Chinese brands occupied almost half of our market with shares of 24.9% and 24.7%, respectively. 23% belongs to the Korean brand, about 15% – to the “Europeans”, 12% – to the “Japanese”, 1% – to the “Americans”.

Four brands from the Celestial Empire were in the top ten in terms of sales at once: Chery (fourth place), Haval (fifth), Geely (sixth) and EXEED (ninth). If you look at the models, then Haval Jolion ranked fifth, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro – sixth, Geely Coolray – eighth.

As we have already reportedin June 2022, 32,731 new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 19.2% more than were sold in May this year (27,458 cars).
