Russian Yandex announced an agreement of intent with KT Corporation, one of the largest South Korean telecommunications companies.
Together, the companies plan to launch delivery by autonomous Yandex robot couriers in Seoul in 2022. As the press service of Yandex notes, South Korea will become the first country in East Asia where you can meet Yandex robot couriers on the roads. To date, Yandex rovers have already delivered more than 85,000 orders in Russia and the United States, and are also preparing to launch in Dubai.
Dmitry Polishchuk, head of unmanned technologies at Yandex, noted:
Cooperation with KT will allow us to expand the geography of our unmanned delivery and launch it in a new region. Demand for last mile delivery in South Korea is one of the highest in the world and continues to grow. Robots will automate this process, providing a reliable and cost-effective way to deliver orders.”
