NASA will remain on the ISS until 2030. Now it’s the law

The United States will operate the International Space Station until 2030, with approval from both the executive and legislative branches of government. This was stated by the head of NASA Bill Nelson.

The Appropriations Act gives us what we have been striving for for years: extending the operation of the ISS until 2030. Now it’s the law“, he said at a meeting of the NASA Advisory Board.

NASA’s budget allocation package, which provides for the operation of the ISS until 2030, is included to the US $280 billion semiconductor manufacturing support act (CHIPS and Science Act). It has already been signed by Joe Biden.

Russia adheres to other plans for the ISS: the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, said that after 2024 Russia will begin the process of withdrawing from the project. However, most likely, the exit will be long, since the launch of the first module of the Russian Orbital Service Station is scheduled only for 2028.
