Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli appreciated the criticism and democracy on Sunday, saying that democracy is like a highway, which does not have a ‘reverse gear’. He said that sometimes we have to go back temporarily due to sharp turns but we should focus on moving forward.
In fact, last week, supporters of former King Gyanendra Shah of Nepal organized a rally in Kathmandu, which was aimed at expressing support for the restoration of monarchy in Nepal. As soon as 77 -year -old Raja Gyanendra visited Tribhuvan International Airport after visiting various religious places from Pokhara on Sunday, his supporters raised slogans in his favor.
What did PM Oli say
Speaking at the Women’s Leadership Conference 2025 on Sunday, Prime Minister Oli, citing the recent demonstrations by Raja supporter groups, said, “We should always move forward. Do not look back. Reverse gear is sometimes only when there is a sharp turn on the road. The highway does not have a back gear and democracy is our highway.”

The former king’s supporters are holding rallies these days in various parts of the country, including Kathmandu and Pokhara, and demanding the restoration of the monarchy which ended after the mass movement in 2008.
One of the reasons for the monarchy to be active is the statement that Gyanendra gave on the occasion of the Day of Public Day in February, “The time has come for us to handle the responsibility of the country and bring national unity.”
Prime Minister Oli also emphasized the need for equal participation of men and women in every sphere of society.
