Reliance Jio has announced a strategic partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to introduce Starlink satellite internet services in India. This comes just a day after Airtel made a similar announcement regarding its collaboration with SpaceX.
Starlink Awaits Approval to Launch Services in India
Starlink has already applied for regulatory approval to begin operations in India. Once it receives the necessary permissions, both Jio and Airtel will be able to offer Starlink services in the country. As part of this collaboration, Jio and Starlink will work together to expand satellite internet access across India.
Similar to Airtel, Jio plans to make Starlink products available through its physical retail stores and online platforms. Additionally, Jio will provide customer support for Starlink’s installation and activation services.
Jio’s Statement on the Partnership
Reliance Jio Group CEO Matthew Oommen emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering affordable and high-speed broadband across India. He stated that integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem would enhance the company’s reach and reliability in the market.
Airtel-SpaceX Partnership Details
Airtel, through its subsidiary, had earlier signed an agreement with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s internet services to schools, colleges, hospitals, and remote areas of India. The company also plans to integrate Starlink’s technology into its existing network infrastructure.
Starlink, which operates a network of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, already provides internet services in several countries, including Australia. With Jio and Airtel now on board, Starlink’s entry into India is expected to significantly boost internet accessibility, especially in rural and underserved regions.
