Microsoft has recently taken steps to discourage owners of older PCs from installing Windows 11. Without providing an explanation, the company removed instructions from its official website for installing the OS on computers lacking the TPM 2.0 cryptographic module.
A new post on the support page now advises users with unsupported devices to revert to Windows 10. The updated guide states:
“If you installed Windows 11 on a device that does not meet the Windows 11 system requirements, Microsoft recommends that you immediately roll back to Windows 10.”
In response to a query from Windows Latest, a Microsoft representative confirmed that the workaround for installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware still functions. However, the company will no longer endorse it. Additionally, such devices may lose security updates in the future.
Previously, Microsoft had clarified that the TPM 2.0 chip requirement was introduced to enhance security measures.
