Android users have reported a strange issue on Google Play involving the continuous downloading of updates for installed apps. Although the glitch hasn’t caused major failures, it has negatively impacted the user experience for affected device owners.
The issue occurs when apps that are already up-to-date reappear in the “Pending Downloads” list. These can be distinguished from genuine updates by the absence of file size information.
The problem has not become widespread but has impacted apps such as Gboard, Google Messages, Pocket Casts, and The Athletic. When attempting to update these apps, small files of 1 to 2 MB are downloaded without any visible changes.
The cause of the bug remains unknown, and Google has not yet issued any official comments.
