The University Grants Commission (UGC) has cautioned students and their parents about fake degrees by non-recognized universities. The UGC has issued a notification stating that many institutions are violating the UGC Act by providing illegal degrees. Students can check the necessary notices by visiting UGC’s official website https://www.ugc.gov.in/.
According to the UGC, only the Universities established under the State Act, the Central Act or the Provincial Act or the UGC Act, 1956, have the right to provide a degree of invested institutes. The degrees given by non-recognized institutions will be invalid to advanced studies or jobs. The Commission said that there are some institutions that are giving degrees without authority.
The notice said, ‘UGC has come to know that many institutions are providing degrees violating the provisions made in the UGC Act. The degrees issued by such institutions will not be accepted or they will not be considered for higher studies and employment objectives. ”
Action against illegal institutions
Earlier in February, State Education Minister Dr. Sukant Mazumdar informed the Lok Sabha that the UGC website recognized 21 institutions as fake universities. He further said that it is the responsibility of the state governments to implement the law. In addition, the central government has asked the Chief Secretaries of the state and the administrators of the union territories to take legal action to close the institutions and take action against those who cheat the students.

The UGC is issuing advisory on its website and social media to avoid getting fake universities.
An FIR has been lodged against such so -called universities and show cause notices have been issued to unauthorized institutions issuing illegal degrees.
Students are advised to confirm the recognition of whichever university they want to enroll to ensure that their degree is valid for further studies and use in work.
