YouTube Shorts running on the phone will now be able to watch on TV, users will be able to control with remote

Highlights

Users can like or dislike short videos of creators while watching them on TV.
The video will continue to loop until the user manually moves to the next video.
The company is planning to introduce more community features over time.

YouTube is introducing its short video making video section ‘Youtube Shorts’ for TV. The company has announced that the shorts are being rolled out globally. YouTube states that the company’s updated Smart TV app will now allow users to watch popular vertical videos in an optimized experience that’s designed to better watch on TV as users watch on mobile.

YouTube says users must have a 2019 or later smart TV, new gaming console, or streaming device for the new feature to watch shorts-on TVs. Users will be able to play these short videos on the homepage of the YouTube app or from the new shorts shelf on a creator’s channel page.

Initially, users can like or dislike short videos of creators on TV itself, and can also interact with creators by subscribing to their channels by reading the title and description of these videos. But it is learned that the company is planning to introduce more community features over time.

Video has to be changed manually
YouTube said it also found an unusual behavior with the experience of watching short-form videos on TV. People wanted to manually skip to the next short video instead of autoplaying the feed, which is what usually happens with TVs. Therefore, the app now allows users to start or stop the video by clicking on the short video directly, or by using the play/pause button via the remote.

The video will continue to loop until the user manually moves to the next video. The up and down buttons on the remote can be used to skip to the next video or go back to the previous video.

Youtube Shorts was first introduced in India in September 2020. The company claims that it is currently viewed by over 1.5 billion logged-in users in more than 100 countries every month and more than 30 billion views per day.
