There are many places on earth where people from all over the world dream of living, but it is not possible for everyone. In fact, these places look no less than heaven, but at the same time they are also very expensive and living there is not within the reach of a common man. Although there are many places in the world which are beautiful and not expensive, but still people are not ready to live there. There is a similar place in Japan also. This place is actually a city, where the population is decreasing so rapidly that the government has started appealing to the people to come and settle here and has also offered lakhs of rupees.

Actually, Kainan city located in Wakayama province of Japan is continuously shrinking i.e. the population here is decreasing rapidly. In such a situation, the government is offering people to relocate here. In return for staying here, the government will give that person 10 lakh yen i.e. about five lakh 80 thousand rupees. Not only this, if you have a child below 18 years of age with you, then you will be given 10 lakh yen separately for him. However, a small condition has also been kept for this, if fulfilled, you will get money.

According to media reports, a person will be able to get these lakhs of rupees only when he comes and settles here and also adds ‘Suzuki’ to his name. Now you might be wondering why people are being asked to use the name ‘Suzuki’, the reason for this is that Suzuki is the second most common surname in Japan and secondly, Kainan city is the birthplace of this surname.

The campaign started 2 years ago

According to reports, this campaign was started in the year 2021 to repopulate Kaynan city. It was then estimated that approximately 7 lakh 50 thousand people with the Suzuki surname live in Tokyo and the neighboring provinces of Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa. However, The Guardian reports that even two years after the campaign was launched, the city has failed to attract even a single person with the Suzuki surname.

After all, why are we getting money in exchange for living in the city?

In fact, there is a continuous decline in the number of residents in different provinces across Japan. In the year 2022, the population of Japanese citizens has decreased from a record 125.4 million to just 8 lakhs. On the other hand, according to the report of The Guardian, the number of foreigners here has increased to a record level of about three million i.e. 30 lakhs. According to the forecast of the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, by the year 2070, the population of Japan will reduce to only 87 million i.e. 8.7 crores. In such a situation, the government is making various efforts to somehow increase the population of the country.
