Yandex was accused of discriminating against competitors: the company faces a fine of up to 4.4 billion rubles

According to Vedomosti, the Antimonopoly Regulation Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has completed an investigation into Yandex, which faces a huge fine.

The EEC is the regulatory body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), whose decisions are binding in Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. After an investigation, the EAEU antitrust authority accused Yandex of a dominant position in the advertising services market in search results in Russia and violation of competition rules.

First, Yandex creates preferential terms for displaying information about its own services in rich responses. These are widgets and text information on the search results page, they are also called “wizards”. The second violation concerns the clause in the Rules for Displaying Ads in Yandex.Direct, according to which an advertiser may be denied displaying an ad if it replaces an ad unit on Yandex services. The third point says that Yandex provides access to “sorcerers” only with the obligatory connection of “Yandex.Metrica” and the payment service Yandex Pay.

The Antimonopoly Regulation Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission concluded that these actions by Yandeas could lead to restriction of competition and infringement of the interests of others. All materials were submitted to the Federal Antimonopoly Service.

Vedomosti adds that if Yandex is guilty, the company may face a fine of up to 4.4 billion rubles.

Yandex did not comment on the situation.
