Yamaha Motorcycle India is about to launch two of its electric scooters in the Indian market. These electric scooters will be launched in the name of Yamaha E01 and Yamaha NEO. Recently, the company has displayed these electric scooters in a dealers meet.
It is being told that the Yamaha E01 is more likely to be made here, as it is at par with the 125cc petrol scooter. Yamaha Motorcycles has already established a strong presence in this segment with popular scooters like Yamaha Fascino and RayZR.
A similar USP could be made for the Yamaha E01. In addition, Yamaha Motorcycles has already filed a trademark for the E01. Let us tell you that the Yamaha E01 electric scooter concept was showcased by the company at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
It was a maxi-styled scooter that featured a sporty profile with prominent front fascia, dual headlights, compact windscreen and wide and comfortable single piece seats. The scooter is expected to be offered in both single and dual-tone color options.
Talking about other key features of Yamaha E01, it can get fully digital instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity and keyless ignition. Apart from this, three ride modes can also be given in it – Eco, Normal and Power. With a single battery pack, its maximum range can be around 70-80 km on a full charge.
Coming to the European markets, the 11kW (15 bhp) motor could be used in the Yamaha E01. This is in accordance with the mandatory regulatory requirements for light electric scooters. The Yamaha Neo, on the other hand, is based on the E02 concept showcased at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
This electric scooter was recently launched in Europe at a starting price of EUR 3,005 (approximately Rs 2.52 lakh). It may be available for sale in May this year. The Yamaha Neo electric scooter comes with a 50.4V, 19.2Ah lithium-ion battery pack, weighing 8kg.
This battery pack powers an in-built brushless DC hub motor that delivers 2.5 kW (3.4PS) of power and 136 Newton meters of torque in standard mode. The powertrain can be compared to a 50cc scooter. It will have a range of about 38.5 km on a single battery and 68 km on a dual battery.
