Chinese technology companies are often ahead of the market leaders when it comes to innovation. While Apple is preparing to introduce its augmented reality headset, Xiaomi has already done it.
Xiaomi has introduced the Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition augmented reality headset, which, as the name suggests, is wireless. Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, posted the following on his Twitter page:
Introducing our latest breakthrough in augmented reality technology – Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition! With low latency wireless connectivity, retinal level display for AR glasses, and Xiaomi AR gesture control, the era of wireless AR begins right now.
The device received a lightweight body made of carbon fiber and magnesium-lithium alloy. While carbon fiber and magnesium-lithium alloy are nowhere near as strong as a unibody aluminum body, both materials are incredibly lightweight, making them the perfect choice for the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition. The characteristics of smart glasses have not yet been published.
The press images show two large cameras on the left and right, plus a small camera right in the middle. An Apple headset is rumored to contain up to 15 sensors.
One of the teasers confirms that the headset will use electrochromic lenses that allow you to change transparency and switch between virtual and real worlds.
