The Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphone has started working on the 5.5G network with the next firmware update. So far it has only been deployed in China in test mode, but this did not stop the gadget from setting a “personal” connection speed record when connecting to the mobile Internet.
According to the Gizmochina portal, the gadget accelerated to 5132 Mbit/s for reception and up to 163.07 Mbit/s for transmission on the network of the Chinese telecom operator China Telecom. A representative of the latter noted that in comparison with standard 5G frequencies, the new standard provides not only higher speed, but also lower signal delay. In addition, the transition to 5.5G provides improved energy efficiency and throughput.
According to the source , the new standard has potential for improvement. The theoretical ceiling is up to 10 Gbit/s for downloading and up to 1 Gbit/s for data transfer. In April, 5.5G support should appear on OPPO X100 series smartphones. Xiaomi has not yet announced the availability of the latest firmware update outside the Chinese market.
