Xiaomi 12 Pro audio test from DxOMark: a strong “average”

DxOMark laboratory specialists tested the speaker system of the Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphone. According to the test results, the device showed not the best results in terms of sound and microphone performance, closing the top thirty. The problem with low frequencies is especially pronounced when listening to songs in headphones.

The smartphone’s audio system includes four Harman Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Headphones and external speakers can be connected via a Type-C connector or via Bluetooth 5.2 with support for aptX, aptX Adaptive, AptX TWS +, LDAC, LHDCSBC, AAC and SBC audio codecs.

The playback test revealed the strengths of the gadget’s audio system. Experts refer to them as excellent sound quality at high volume, a small number of artifacts, a fast attack at all stages of volume, and a generally balanced sound. Weaknesses of the acoustics of the device: general muffled sound, the first “step” of volume is too quiet and an obvious lack of bass.

When recording audio to the device’s pluses, experts recorded a natural timbre (especially in the Recorder application), an almost complete absence of artifacts, excellent overall dynamic performance in most work scenarios, and external noise suppression during recording. Among the shortcomings, they noted a weak timbre sound, an acute lack of bass, an excess of low and medium frequencies, and a lack of clarity.

The final result of Xiaomi 12 Pro was 70 points, the device took 30th place in the DxOMark audio rating.
