The study was based on health data from 68 pregnant women, 38 of whom experienced COVID-19 during their third trimester. Scientists also analyzed the levels of protective antibodies in the blood of the subjects and the indicators of the placenta of these women.
It turned out that the female body forms smaller titers of protective antibodies to COVID-19 in case of pregnancy with a boy. Among other things, this category of mothers transfers fewer neutralizing antibodies to the child. The results of this study suggest that men are potentially more susceptible to coronavirus infection during infancy.
