Will there be another baby boom in the world?

According to Bank of America Research, over the past six weeks, 11% of Americans tried to have a child in the next year. Between June 2020 and June 2021, the number of births increased by 3.3% and sales of pregnancy tests increased.

But from 2019 to 2020, the birth rate in the United States fell by 4%. This is the most significant drop in nearly 50 years. Despite the positive statements of some experts, demographer Jennifer D. Sciubba believes that the baby boom should not be expected. She noted that this effect on the birth rate is due only to the fact that people postponed the moment to have a baby, due to the pandemic.

The demographer explained that the drop in fertility is not just the consequences of a pandemic. This is a continuation of a ten-year trend. Women are no longer aspiring to have children in such numbers as before. And this is a global trend.

Syuba compared current US activity to natural peaks and valleys in other countries, such as Russia, where fertility rates are among the lowest in the world. She recalled how people referred to similar surges in the country as evidence of a baby boom that never happened.
