25 January President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited BYD headquarters in Shenzhen, China. During this visit, Mirziyoyev and Van Chuanfu, President of BYD, held a remote ceremony of launching the production at BYD’s new plant in Uzbekistan, where they started the assembly of Song Plus DM-i. In addition, he presented to President Mirziyoyev a 10-thousandth new electric vehicle (NEV), produced by BYD on the market of Uzbekistan, – Yangwang U8.
This visit coincides with the state visit of Mirziyoyev to China, which took place from 23 to 25 January. His visit to BYD headquarters was part of broader engagement with Chinese enterprises. The Uzbek-Chinese Investment Forum, held on January 25 in Shenzhen, gathered representatives of political and business circles of both countries. The Forum was focused on strengthening bilateral trade-economic relations and expanding mutual investments in accordance with the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries.
The agreement on the production of electric- and hybrid cars in Uzbekistan was signed in September last year between the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan and BYD. In accordance with the agreement BYD and JAO «Uzavtosonat», the state-controlled automotive group in Uzbekistan, created the joint venture BYD Uzbekistan Factory for the production of electric and hybrid cars.
Earlier this month BYD launched three pure electric models in Indonesia and announced investments amounting to $1.3 billion in an automobile plant in the country, expecting that production capacity will amount to 150 000 units.
