Why is it dangerous to use SIM cards registered with companies

First of all, it should be borne in mind that when using a corporate number for purchases in online stores, calling a taxi and other services, the employer will be able to obtain all information about the employee, including personal information. And if the employee resigns, the card can be reissued, and then another person will use it.

In this case, the phone numbers of stores for confirming payment and other sensitive information will become available to a third party. Viktor Chebyshev, a cybersecurity expert at Kaspersky Lab, commented on this situation. According to the specialist, it is advisable to use a corporate SIM card exclusively for work purposes, taking into account that the employer always has the right to block it, reissue it and transfer it to another employee, for example, in the event of an employee’s dismissal or taking a long-term vacation, or a decree.

In addition, do not forget that large online stores link and remember the bank card number associated with the phone number, and can write off money without two-factor authorization.

“Thus, if a person receives a previously owned corporate phone number, then the new owner has a chance to use unauthorized access to online stores or make purchases using this number,” the expert emphasized.

Igor Bederov, head of the information and analytical research department of T.Hunter, also spoke about the dangers of using a corporate number for personal purposes. According to him, the new owner of the corporate number will easily restore access to instant messengers, social networks and other services.
