During the crisis, people began to buy not new, but refurbished smartphones. This is evidenced by the latest Counterpoint statistics.
According to their data, at the end of 2021, the market for new smartphones grew by 4.5%, while the market for refurbished exceeded all forecasts and showed an increase of 15%! At the same time, growth was observed in all key markets, and in Latin America it amounted to 29%.
Apple leads the market for refurbished smartphones, but Samsung is gradually catching up. True, the source, unfortunately, did not share details regarding the sales figures of these companies.
But analysts note a slight increase in the average selling price of refurbished smartphones.
One of the reasons for the growth of this market is a significant increase in the number of companies involved in the repair and restoration of mobile devices. Also, do not forget that the laws of different countries put pressure on smartphone manufacturers, forcing them to make their products more maintainable.
