Who is hardest hit by the pandemic: working women or men

Specialists from recruiting companies Hays and OxfordEconomics conducted a study that found out who was hardest hit by the pandemic: working women or men.

Note that the coronavirus pandemic has led to an increase in the unemployment rate. As a rule, men are hardest hit by economic crises. However, in 2020 the opposite happened.

As part of the study, experts analyzed the situation in 34 countries. As it turned out, in most of them – 24 countries, including the USA, Canada, Japan, Spain and others – women’s employment decreased by 3.4% on average compared to 2019. For men, this figure fell by 3%. The least favorable situation was in the second quarter, when women were out of work 1.3% more often than men.

In Latin America, the gap between women and men is reported to be even greater. In particular, the employment of the former fell by 12.1%, while for men this indicator fell by only 5.3%.
