After retirement from the army, he started living in Pune with his family. Kale’s mortal remains will be brought to India via Egypt and his last rites will be performed in Pune.

His close friend Lieutenant Colonel Hange told that Kale was commanding the 11 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles battalion of the Indian Army at the time of the Pathankot attack.
