According to Kazakova, they plan to start issuing e-passports in January 2023. Now the country is working on “detailed requirements for the procedure for issuing and processing electronic passports.” The Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on this together with the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media.
Kazakova also said that electronic passports will be issued to people over 14 years old “on a voluntary basis.” At the start, they plan to issue at least 100 thousand documents.
Earlier it was reported that the electronic passport in Russia will be a plastic card with a chip. The mobile application “My Passport” will work in conjunction with it.
