WhatsApp users have been waiting for this feature for over a year: different disappearance times for all new chats

Last November, WhatsApp introduced a disappearing message feature that automatically deletes chats after 7 days. It took the developers over a year to add additional options to delete posts after 24 hours or 90 days.

Not only that, WhatsApp users will now also be able to turn on disappearing messages by default for all new one-to-one chats. Previously, you had to turn it on manually. And as soon as you turn on disappearing messages by default, the application will notify your interlocutors about it.

Today we are introducing a new option for disappearing messages in WhatsApp so that all new chats disappear by default after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. Not all messages need to be kept forever.

This new feature is optional and WhatsApp says it doesn’t affect your existing chats. To enable the feature on iPhone and Android devices, go to privacy settings and select Message Timer.
