WhatsApp to Stop Working on These iPhones and Android Phones: Full List and What to Do

WhatsApp Will Stop Working on These Phones – Check if Yours Is on the List

WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, will soon stop working on several older Android smartphones and iPhones. This move comes as WhatsApp updates its minimum software requirements. Phones that no longer meet these updated standards will lose access to WhatsApp’s features.

New Software Requirements

To continue using WhatsApp:

  • iPhone users must update to iOS 15.1 or later.

  • Android users need to be on Android 5.1 or later.

Devices running on older versions will not be able to use WhatsApp’s messaging or calling features.

iPhones That Will Lose WhatsApp Support

  • iPhone 5s

  • iPhone 6

  • iPhone 6 Plus

Note: iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Gen) will still support WhatsApp as they can be updated.

Android Phones That Will Lose Support

  • Samsung Galaxy S4

  • Galaxy Note 3

  • Sony Xperia Z1

  • LG G2

  • Huawei Ascend P6

  • Moto G (1st Gen)

  • HTC One X

Any Android phone running Android 5.0 or older will be affected.

How to Check Your Phone’s Software Version

iPhone:

  • Go to Settings > General > About

  • Look for your iOS version

Android:

  • Go to Settings > About Phone

  • Check the Android version

Why WhatsApp Is Ending Support for Older Devices

WhatsApp regularly reviews which devices and operating systems are outdated or no longer secure. According to Meta, phones that:

  • Have fewer active users

  • Don’t receive security updates

  • Can’t support new features

…are removed from the list of supported devices. This allows WhatsApp to focus on better performance, enhanced security, and new features for users on newer platforms.

What You Can Do

If your device is on the list or running an outdated system:

  • Update your phone’s software, if possible

  • Or, consider upgrading to a newer device

Staying on a supported version will ensure you can continue using WhatsApp without any problems.
