In the official blog of the developers of the WhatsApp messenger, a message appeared that support for proxy servers was launched in the application. The creators of WhatsApp said that thanks to the new feature, everyone will be able to use the messenger, even if access is blocked in their region. Now WhatsApp is disabled in a number of countries, for example, at the end of 2022 it stopped working in Iran. The project blog states that the new feature will allow users to “connect to proxy servers in different countries, set up by volunteers and organizations that advocate freedom of communication.”
The developers also note that access to the application through a proxy server meets the high privacy and security requirements of WhatsApp. Private messages will, as always, be end-to-end encrypted, and their content will be known only to the user and his interlocutor. Proxy connection is available through the Storage & Data menu in the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS and Android. You can also set up your own proxy server, instructions and all the necessary documentation for this are available on the messenger blog.
