Telegram founder Pavel Durov has warned about a security issue with the WhatsApp messenger, due to which hackers can gain full access to the user’s personal data on the phone. This can be done by sending a malicious video or answering a video call, Durov said in his Telegram channel.
“Hackers can have full access to everything on WhatsApp users’ phones. This was made possible thanks to a security hole disclosed by the company last week.“, – said Durov. He added that WhatsApp has been a surveillance tool for 13 years.
Similar problems with the security system happened from 2017 to 2020, and in 2016 there was no data encryption in the messenger at all, writes Durov. The founder of Telegram is also sure that even after updating WhatsApp to the latest version, there is a risk of a hacker attack.
Recall that in 2021, Roskomnadzor warned Russian WhatsApp users about the insufficient protection of personal data of the messenger.
