The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) has published the results of a survey of what social networks and instant messengers Russians use. The most popular – and there are no surprises here – was WhatsApp, but the leader in audience growth for six months is Telegram.
“The top 5 most popular social networks and instant messengers among Russians today include WhatsApp (87%), YouTube (75%), VKontakte (62%), Telegram (55%) and Odnoklassniki (42%) “»– said in VTsIOM. At the same time, Odnoklassniki rose from seventh to fifth place in six months, and the daily audience of VKontakte grew by 5 percentage points in six months.
Telegram demonstrates the largest increase in the audience among social networks and messengers in Russia – over the past six months, the share of daily messenger users has grown by 13%.
Telegram took the place where Instagram used to be (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation): in six months, the share of Instagram users in Russia fell by half, from 53% to 25%.
The Viber messenger and the TikTok social network are used by 37% and 35% of Russians, respectively (sixth and seventh places in the rating). Facebook (also banned in the Russian Federation) and Twitter also lost their audience: the first had a churn of 10%, the second – 4%.
