Apple is gradually moving towards ensuring that all the main components of its smartphones are of its own design. Next in line is the 5G modem.
The source claims that already the 2023 iPhones will fully rely on modems developed by Apple, that is, they will not use a Qualcomm modem.
At the same time, Qualcomm’s contract with Apple implies the supply of modems until at least 2024. But this fact does not contradict the news, since above it was only about new models that will be presented in 2023. Older ones are likely to remain on Qualcomm modems.
It is also worth noting that the first Apple modem will not be integrated into a single-chip system, that is, it will be implemented as a separate microcircuit. It was the same with Qualcomm’s first 5G modem.
