Sports drinks, which contain carbohydrates and electrolytes, are commonly used during exercise to hydrate. Drinks are divided into these types – hypertonic, isotonic and hypotonic.

The authors of the new work analyzed data from 28 studies that involved healthy people and athletes who consume these types of drinks, as well as water. So scientists have determined the effectiveness of drinks.

Research has shown that hypotonic drinks, which generally contain lower amounts of sugar and salt, are more effective than isotonic and hypertonic sports drinks.
