The study involved 128 people diagnosed with melanoma. All participants were offered a diet high in fiber and an increase of 5 grams daily.
This diet improved the condition of the intestinal microflora of the subjects, and also an improved response to melanoma therapy was recorded. Experts also noted that such a diet reduces the risk of developing or recurring skin cancer by 30%.
This study was carried out due to the fact that therapy with blockers of immune checkpoints is used in the treatment of melanoma. It gives good results, but not all patients tolerate it easily. Therefore, scientists decided to find out how food can contribute to immunotherapy.
