Pakistan China Relations : Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reached China on a 4-day visit. During this, he held strategic talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. China raised the issue of security during this period. China on Wednesday asked Pakistan to do its best to protect thousands of Chinese workers engaged in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Beijing expressed concern about the increasing attacks in Pakistan. Wang told Dar that China hopes Pakistan will do its best to allay the concerns of Chinese workers and Chinese enterprises.
In fact, Chinese workers working in the CPEC project costing 60 billion US dollars are being repeatedly attacked in Pakistan. In March itself, there was a terrorist attack on a Chinese company in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Five Chinese and one Pakistani citizen were killed in this.
Agreement reached on many issues between the two countries
Dar said that Pakistan is fully committed to taking action against the planners, funders and criminals of this heinous attack. Pakistan will do its best to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions in the country. Pakistan says that it has formed 12,000 paramilitary forces for the protection of Chinese workers. While assuring Pakistan, which is facing financial crunch, Wang said that China will not back down from its resolve. Dar said both sides agreed to expedite the ML-1 railway line project, Gwadar port development and restructuring of the Karakoram Highway. It has also been agreed to strengthen relations in agriculture, mining, minerals, energy, IT and industrial sectors.
India has been protesting
India has opposed the construction of CPEC by China and Pakistan. Because it is passing through Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Dar said Islamabad adheres to the One-China policy and supports China without hesitation on all issues related to China’s core interests.
