What Christmas plants are dangerous to human health

As noted by the British Medical Journal experts, one should be wary of such festive plants as pear tree, holly, mistletoe, yew, nightshade, hellebore, Jerusalem cherry.

The fact is that the seeds of fruits from the pear tree contain a substance that is converted into cyanide in the intestines. In the case of holly, the berries of this plant can, when consumed in large quantities, contribute to upset stomach, drowsiness, speech and balance problems (i.e. ataxia). Mistletoe contains proteins called viscotoxins, which are poisonous. Yew, nightshade, Jerusalem cherry also contain toxic substances. And the hellebore is able to influence the heart rate.
