Weather Alert: Rain and Thunderstorm Likely in Delhi-NCR; Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northeast and Northwest India

Delhi, June 2, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), forecasting light rain and thunderstorms within the next 2-3 hours. Residents should brace for strong winds with speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph, potentially gusting up to 60 kmph.

This weather system is part of a broader pattern affecting various parts of the country. The IMD has indicated that adverse weather conditions will prevail in Northeast and Northwest India over the next few days.

Specifically, the northeastern states of Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive heavy rainfall for the next two days, June 2nd and 3rd. While heavy to very heavy rains have already been recorded in Nagaland and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal in the past 24 hours, the intensity of rainfall in the Northeast is expected to decrease after June 3rd.

Northwest India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh, can anticipate light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph over the next three days. The IMD has also warned of potential heavy rainfall in some areas of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Eastern Rajasthan on June 2nd and 3rd. Additionally, Western Rajasthan is under a dust storm warning from today until June 5th.

Considering the active weather systems, including a western disturbance over northern Pakistan and Jammu, and cyclonic circulations over Haryana and eastern Bihar, the IMD has also issued advisories for marine areas. Fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into the South and Central Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Karnataka and Kerala coasts, as well as the central and northern Bay of Bengal from June 2nd to 4th.

The IMD has urged the public in the affected regions to exercise caution and adhere to the instructions issued by local authorities in light of these weather developments.
