The new Volkswagen Virtus will replace the Vento in the company’s India line-up and the made-in-India sedan will be exported to several global markets as well.
What’s special in the new Volkswagen Virtus
The new Volkswagen Virtus is the second product from the German carmaker under the India 2.0 project. The first car under this was the Taigun. It is based on the India-specific MQB A0-IN platform and shares its platform and mechanicals with the Skoda Slavia. However, in terms of design, the Virtus comes with a sleek design and gets LED headlamps with LED DRLs.
Dimensions and Engine
Talking about the dimensions, its length is 4,561 mm, width is 1,752 mm and height is 1,507 mm. The wheelbase of this sedan is 2,651 mm and it has a huge boot space of 521 liters. Talking about the powertrain options, it is offered with two engine options. The first is the 1.0-litre TSI that makes 113 hp and 178 Nm, which is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
It also gets a 1.5-litre TSI motor that generates 148 hp of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG. In terms of features, the Virtus offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital cockpit, ventilated seats, six airbags and much more. The new Volkswagen Virtus is expected to be launched in India in May 2022. When launched, it will take on the likes of Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.
