Volkswagen’s Polo hatchback is once again ready to enter the country. At the Volkswagen Annual Brand Conference 2024, the company’s brand director Ashish Gupta talked about its return again. He told that at present there is no plan to launch it, but there is a possibility of bringing it again in the future. Polo can be brought as an SUV or an electric car. The Polo will not return with its original model. Volkswagen has changed its 2.0 strategy in India. Let us tell you that Polo, launched in 2010, was Volkswagen’s best-selling car in India. However, due to increasing competition and decreasing demand, it was discontinued in 2022.

Even though Polo could not progress beyond the 5th generation in India, its 6th generation also arrived in the international market. Volkswagen is currently focusing on the heavy localization MQB-A0-IN platform that underpins the Taigun and Virtus. Volkswagen uses a similar platform for the 6th generation Polo for emerging markets such as Brazil. On sale in select international markets as the 6th generation Polo Virtus. The Virtus is also on sale as a Polo sedan in some markets.

Features and Specifications of Volkswagen Polo

Polo was introduced in India in 3 engine options. It included 1.0 liter petrol, 1.2 liter and 1.5 liter diesel engines along with 3 cylinder engines. Its 1.0 liter petrol engine generates maximum power of 108.6 bhp along with peak torque of 175 Nm. This car came with both manual and automatic transmissions. In petrol version this car gives a mileage of 15Km/l.

Talking about its features, it was the car with the most advanced features of its time. It had features like auto air-con, one-touch control for all four windows, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, dual-front airbags and ABS and Volkswagen Connect. Its touchscreen also supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In India, it competed with cars like Hyundai i10, Maruti Swift.
