Russian gamers are well aware of the history of game development in the USA and Japan, but how well do they know about the ins and outs of the gaming industry in Russia? To fill possible gaps in knowledge, VK Video launched a documentary series “Serious Games: Paradoxes of Russian Game Dev.”
As part of this project, viewers will be told about how video game culture in the Russian Federation has gone from basements and computer clubs to high-budget AAA projects and victories in global eSports competitions.
The experts of “Serious Games” were company executives, famous athletes, streamers, actors and journalists: Robert Bagratuni (game director of Atomic Heart, founder of the Mundfish studio), Alexander TORONTOTOKYO Khertek (professional player of the BetBoom Team), Dmitry Recrent (streamer), Peter Glantz ( famous voice actor), Victor Savyuk (founder and author of the Dendy trademark), Dmitry Smith (president of the Russian Computer Sports Federation), Vladimir Kudr (vice president of the Akella company) and many others.
“In literally 10 years, we have received a galaxy of people who independently taught themselves everything: programming languages, drawing, 3D modeling. We have created what is called the backbone of modern Russian video game development,” Alexander Kuzmenko, editor-in-chief of Igromania magazine (2004–2010).
The premiere of the debut episode of “Paradoxes of a Russian Game Dev” took place on March 1 at 13:00. You can watch it on the VK Video platform.
