Vietnamese engineers’ AI research projects recognised at PRICAI

The research works are all related to speech processing technology, including Research on Multi-task Text Normalization Approach for Speech Synthesis and Research on Learning Vietnamese-English Code-Switching Speech Synthesis Model Under Limited Code-Switched Data Scenario.

The young engineers are researchers from Zalo AI: Trang Truong (born 1994), Viet Lam (1995), Cuc Bui (1997), and Manh Cuong (1999).

It took the team about six months to research and test, while another two months to was required to complete the scientific article section. The topics all stem from practical needs in the process of building AI products to better serve users.

Currently, both research works are being applied into practice.

After attending PRICAI 2021, the engineering team continues unfinished research to improve the product they are overseeing at Zalo. If there is an opportunity or a good idea, the team is still willing to make scientific articles in order to share the knowledge with the artificial intelligence (AI) community.

Talking about the desire to bring Vietnam’s AI solutions to the international arena, engineer Manh Cuong said: “Bringing Vietnamese people’s knowledge of AI to the world is the desire of many AI engineers. And I feel quite proud to be a small part of that journey.”

PRICAI, which was first held in 1990, is known as an international conference focusing on AI research and its application in the socio-economic field within the Asia-Pacific. This is the place which gathers many experts throughout the world in the field of artificial intelligence in particular and the field of information technology in general. In 2021, PRICAI was held in Hanoi.

The fact that research projects of Vietnamese engineers are recognised at international conferences is a good sign, reflecting the shortening of the gap between Vietnam and the rest of the world in a new field such as AI.
