Video: American probe “touches” the Sun for the first time

The video was taken from images captured between August 8-12, 2021. The probe has penetrated the solar corona. Scientists said that “touching the material that makes up the Sun will help reveal important information about our nearby star and its effect on the solar system.”

These images were obtained with a WISPR (Wide-field Imager for Solar Probe) instrument. All the stripes visible are coronal streamers – massive loops of electrically charged gas and plasma. The video also shows the Milky Way and the planets in the background.

It is worth noting that the Parker probe was moving at a speed of up to 147 kilometers per second.
