Using fake WhatsApp? Will Cathcart, CEO of the company, warns users that fraud is happening

WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart has tweeted about the fake version of the app. In the tweet, he said that users who are using the modified version of the app could suffer huge losses. WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging app. This app has about 2 billion active users. So cyber criminals are cheating users using the name of WhatsApp. Cybercriminals target users in different ways.

WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart said in a tweet that the company’s security research team has found that there are many fake apps that offer services similar to WhatsApp. His team found malware in these apps. These apps are available for download on platforms and websites other than the Google Play Store. This includes Hey WhatsApp and other versions of developers HeyMods. These apps claim to offer additional and new features. However, it is used to steal information from users’ phones.

He further added that Google has also been informed about this. So that you can take action against these fake apps. Fake version of WhatsApp is not available on Google Play Store. Users often download these apps from unauthorized platforms due to lack of features. Now Google Play Protect can detect and disable the fake WhatsApp version that was downloaded on Android.
