US to Engage Allies in Restricting Chip-Making Equipment Exports to China

The US is looking to strike a deal with its allies in the near future to limit exports of chip-making equipment to China. This was reported on Thursday by Bloomberg, citing US Deputy Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security Alan Estevez.

We expect a deal to close soon“, – he said. Alan Estevez also noted that “work is in progress” on the creation of multilateral control mechanisms.

Earlier, Estevez said that the imposition of sanctions against Russia could serve as a model for the West in dealing with China.

On Oct. 7, the United States listed 31 Chinese companies, including memory chip maker YMTC, as potentially suspect in the export of US sensitive technology. It has been argued that the US government failed to make sure that the 31 Chinese entities could be trusted to export strategic US technology.
