There are 180 crore mobile phone users in India. Of these, 78 crore people use smartphones. The rest of the users are feature phones. In such a situation, keeping in mind the large number of feature phone users, RBI has finally introduced UPI 123Pay. Let us know how this works.

How does UPI 123Pay work for feature phones?

Feature phone users will be able to do UPI transactions through UPI 123Pay. Apart from the option of Scan and Pay, all the features of UPI will also be available in feature phones like smartphones. The special thing is that the new payment mode will not even require an internet connection. Users need to link their bank accounts with feature phones to use the UPI 123Pay facility.

Here users will get options like Person to Person and Person to Merchant for payment. Hindi and English options will be available in UPI 123Pay. Total four methods have been given for payment through UPI 123Pay. These methods are- IVR, app functions, missed call based payments and proximity sound based payments.

To make UPI transactions through IVR, users will have to call the number given by NPCI. To make payment through the app, users will have to use the UPI features. Similarly, to make payment through missed call, users will have to give a missed call and will get a call back for payment. Whereas, in sound-based payments, other phones will use sound waves for contactless payments.
