Up to 10 thousand rupees discount on buying electric vehicle in Punjab, tax and registration also free!

The state of Punjab is all set to bring its own EV policy as CM Bhagwant Mann recently approved the draft policy, which includes several rewards for EV buyers. Under the new upcoming policy, Punjab will waive off registration charges and road tax for EV buyers in the state, as well as offer cash benefits.

According to the draft EV policy, the first 1 lakh EV buyers in the state will be given a reward of up to Rs 10,000 apart from tax and registration exemption. The state government is doing this work with the aim of promoting electric vehicles in cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda, as the sales in these cities account for 50 percent of the total vehicle sales in the state. The objective of the policy is to bring down the number of EVs in all state-run vehicles to 25 per cent.

Let us tell you that apart from getting a reward of Rs 10 thousand for the first 1 lakh buyers, the new EV policy will also include a discount of up to Rs 30 thousand for the first 10 thousand buyers who buy electric auto rickshaws and e-rickshaws. Also, the first 5000 e-cart buyers will get a reward of up to Rs 30,000 and the first 5000 light commercial vehicle customers will get a discount of Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.

The state government will set up electric vehicle charging stations and is also working on improving the charging infrastructure for private and public electric vehicles. The state is aiming to become a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles, EV batteries and components.
