Unique ID required for doctors, know what is National Medical Register

National Medical Register : According to a notification by the National Medical Commission (NMC), all doctors to practice medicine in India must obtain a Unique Identification Number (UID).

This unique ID will be generated by the Ethics Board of NMC. This will provide business registration and the ability to practice medicine in the country.

NMC’s notification states that, as per the Medical Practitioners and License to Practice Medicine Regulations, 2023, a common National Medical Register (NMR) will be maintained by the Board of Ethics and Medical Registration of MMC for all registered medical practitioners in India .

The NMR will have entries of registered medical practitioners from all the State Registers maintained by the State Medical Councils.

This NMR will contain information about doctors such as medical qualification specialty, year of passing, university and the name of the institution from where the qualification is passed and the place of work i.e. hospital name etc.

It has also been said in this notification that this license i.e. license for medical practice will have to be renewed every 5 years. To renew it, the doctor has to submit an application to the State Medical Council.

You need to apply for a license 3 months before the expiry of the validity of your license. This notification further states that no charge will be taken by EMRB, MMC for the purpose of updating the license of the doctor.

They can also appeal to the Board of Business Ethics and Medical Regulation against the decision of the State Medical Council rejecting their application for license to practice or renewal of the license within 30 days from the date of receipt of this decision.

The appeal shall be submitted to the Secretary of the MMC along with the original application submitted to the State Medical Council and a copy of the communication received from the State Medical Council, together with the written application on the grounds of rejection and a processing fee.

Thereafter the appeal will be examined by EMRB and a decision will be taken within 30 days.

If the appeal is allowed by the EMRB, it may pass an order for the State Medical Council to grant the license to practice to the applicant.

This order will be binding on the State Medical Council. It will grant the license to the dealer within 15 days from the date of receipt of the order.

If his first appeal is rejected by the EMRB, then the businessman can also file a second appeal with the NMC.
