According to the director of LGARZ Dmitry Matrunchik, since 2014 “more than 10 MiG-29s” have been modernized. All restored aircraft will be transferred to the disposal of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The repaired MiG-29s received improved protection systems, a new control panel for the onboard radio station, video and audio recording systems, as well as systems for dropping guided bombs and launching air-to-ground missiles.
Also in service with Ukraine are 43 MiG-29 light fighters, 12 Su-24 front-line bombers, 17 Su-25 attack aircraft and 26 Su-27 heavy fighters.
“Flight design tests were successfully completed last year. This year, the still ongoing state tests began, the final completion of which is planned in 2022. We hope that, based on their results, the MiG-29MU2 will be adopted by the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ”said Matrunchik.
