The streaming platform Twitch announced the suspension of payments to Russian users under the monetization program. Officially, the measure is not connected with the initiatives of the administration of the service, but with the difficulties of the payment systems in the face of sanctions pressure.
According to Kommersant , one of the Twitch users received a message from the administration of the service. The message says that the platform complies with the restrictive measures imposed by the United States and other countries against Russia in connection with the geopolitical situation in Ukraine. As a result, the ability to monetize Twitch user broadcasts and provide financial support to creators has become much more difficult. The service has lost the ability to make transfers to some Russian financial institutions, so Russian users are advised to use alternative transaction methods.
Recall that this is not the first precedent with the disabling of monetization programs for Russian users on Western technology platforms. Earlier, Meta announced the suspension of advertising mechanisms on Facebook and Instagram for Russians. In addition, all advertising on Google platforms has been suspended in Russia .
