TVS sold 2.66 lakh vehicles in January 2022, bike sales decreased by 13.73%

TVS Motor Company said in a statement that total two-wheeler sales declined by 13.73 per cent to 2,54,139 units in January 2022 from 2,94,596 units in January 2021. However, motorcycle sales last month registered a marginal increase at 1,37,360 units as against 1,36,790 units in the same month a year ago.

Last month, scooter sales declined by 18.04 per cent to 80,580 units as against 98,319 units in the same month last year. The company said in a statement that the production and sales of premium two-wheelers were severely affected due to semiconductor chip shortage. We are cautiously optimistic that this will improve in the coming months.

TVS Motor has registered growth in terms of export of vehicles. In January 2022, the company exported 97,858 units of vehicles from India as against 1,00,926 vehicles sold, of which 86,344 were two-wheelers. The company had exported 89,380 two-wheelers in January 2021.

Chennai-based TVS Motor Company has announced an investment of Rs 1,200 crore on futuristic technologies and electric vehicles in Tamil Nadu over the next four years. The company has entered into an agreement with the state government in this regard. TVS Motor will make this investment primarily for design, development, manufacturing of new products and capacity expansion in the EV sector.

The company said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government at the Tamil Nadu Investment Summit 2021 in Coimbatore. TVS has said that this investment reflects the company’s continued commitment towards the overall economic development of the state as a responsible corporate citizen.

TVS currently sells the i-Cube electric scooter in the EV category. TVS i-Cube has been introduced in India at a price of Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom). TVS iQube competes with premium scooters like Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450X.

The TVS iQube scooter is powered by a 4.4 kW motor, which produces 140 Nm of torque. TVS claims that this scooter can accelerate from 0 to 40 km / h in just 4.2 seconds. TVS iCube has two modes, Eco and Sport. It can run at a maximum speed of 40 kmph on Eco mode, while it can be driven at a maximum speed of 78 kmph in Sport mode. The iCube electric scooter gives a range of 75 km on a single charge.

To charge its battery, a charger of 5 amps has been given, which will be installed free of cost by the company itself. Like Bajaj Chetak, this scooter also takes 5 hours to fully charge. The TVS iCube scooter comes with a TFT screen, which can be connected to the smartphone via the iCube app.

Through this, features like Geo Fencing, Remote Battery Charge Status, Navigation Assist can be used. The app provides last parking location, call/SMS alerts, ride statics and range information.

TVS Motor is also strengthening its presence in the global markets. The company recently acquired a 75 percent stake in e-bike maker Swiss E-Mobility Group. TVS Motor is investing $100 million in this company.
