The Leninsky District Court of Saratov decided to re-ban the Tor browser. Representatives of The Tor Project Inc. may file an appeal. As noted, this was the requirement of the prosecutor’s office.
“Claims for the recognition of information prohibited for distribution on the territory of the Russian Federation are satisfied“, – said the representatives of the court. Note that on July 22, Roskomnadzor stripped off blocking from the browser and the site.
At the same time, as informs “Kommersant”, the court demanded to remove the browser from Google Play, because prohibited information was found in it. Ekaterina Abashina, a lawyer with the human rights organization Roskomsvoboda, said that the court ignored the provisions of the laws and “agreed with the position of Roskomnadzor that information, application and technology are one and the same.” However, this is contrary to the concept of the device of the Internet.
For the first time, Roskomnadzor took up arms against the browser back in 2021. Experts who monitored Internet blocking reported that from December 1, 2021, some Tor nodes began to be blocked by Russian providers. They talked about it on the 3rd, and already on December 7th, the Tor Project received a notification from Roskomnadzor about the need to remove information prohibited in the Russian Federation from the torproject.org website.
